This study is for those who desire to know more about what we are fighting against and how we can walk in victory. The Word of God declares that “we are more then over-comers” through Christ that lives within us. It is time for the church to walk in the power that God has given us and wage a good war with victorious results.
Waging Spiritual Warfare
(Part 2)
2 Corinthians 10:3-5
For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;
· Many a sincere believer who read this text just breeze through it and value you it as one of those “precious promise” that they can store up and claim when they need encouragement. But there is a wealth of spiritual revelation that reveals and instructs us to what we are facing and who it is that empowers us to be over comers.
o “Though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh”, reveals the struggles in our life as Christians in service to the Lord.
o “Mighty through God”, reveals the source of our strength to endure and prevail in our warfare
· Profound and true as it may be, so many God loving born again Christian’s just simply don’t get it. Though we are fleshly people, we can not fight in this war and win unless we understand that a victorious outcome is not based upon how strong willed we are or how much physical strength or mental ability we may posses. It is not in the number of friends who may stand by us (though there is strength in numbers). It is not in the amount of money or political power one may obtain.
· If it is flesh (carnal), it is worthless in our fight against the enemy of the soul.
· This is a biblical principle that the church at large needs to get a real grip on. Spiritual warfare against the devil and his demonic following can not be won unless it is won by the power of the Holy Ghost. All the power and might of men or of angels can not prevail against the power of God.
· This power can not be acquired apart from an obedient relationship with the Lord and spending prayerful time in His presence.
o Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting. Galatians6:7-8
o The Lord is calling us to an overcoming life, but only those who sow to the spiritual things will stand in complete and eternal victory.
· There are no shortcuts to gaining spiritual victory it takes discipline and proper training. We must know the One we claim to serve and if we do we will know of the power that is available to us through Him alone.
Breaking It Down
For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal
· Notice that the scripture says, “the weapons of our warfare”. These weapons belong to us by way of our ongoing relationship with the Lord. These are ours along with the amour of God as revealed in Ephesians chapter 6.
· We are in warfare, but many fail or refuse to see this truth. We need to pray that God would open our eyes to spiritual things. We can’t just keep shrugging our shoulders and say “that’s life” or “this to will pass”.
· Sometimes these statements do apply, but sometimes they don’t, we’re in the heat of a spiritual war and we need to learn to discern that there are something’s that will not change without a fight.
o Paul told Timothy to “Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.” 1 Timothy 6:12
· We can be victorious in every spiritual battle we encounter be it in the physical or within the mind. But only God can supply what we need to overcome. This is not wishful thinking, this is Bible, and we know that what the Lord establishes can not and will not fail but we must choose to believe and trust God and move in both.
· The Scripture states that these weapons “are not carnal”, in other words “our weapons” are not governed or invented by human nature. Without the Spirit of God actively involved in our lives, there is nothing that we can do when it comes to fighting in spiritual affairs.
o You can not fight successfully against an enemy you know nothing about and that you have not been equipped for proper engagement.
o One might be able to resist for a time, but if the enemy continues his attack, they will in time loose the struggle.
· But there is good news for those who are willing to admit that without God they can do nothing (again we are speaking of spiritual things).
